Qualification Overview

The AOFAQ Level 2 National Award in Safeguarding Children and Young People (England and Wales) course is designed to provide individuals with an awareness level of training in safeguarding. The emphasis of the course is based upon the recognition of abuse and encouraging the reporting of abuse to appropriate authorities and providing an overview of legislative requirements for information purposes.

The course is suitable for those who come into contact with children as part of their working role including voluntary work and those who work with children on a daily basis e.g. teachers, dental staff, nursery nurses, child-minders, foster carers, teaching assistants, administration staff etc.

The course has been designed around legislation and guidance from various departments of Her Majesty’s Government including the Working Together to Safeguard Children: a guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, what to do if you are worried about a child being abused and the All Wales Child Protection Procedures documents.

The course has the flexibility in the syllabus for the core content to be taught and assessed as a requirement for the certification, however additional content can be added to the end of the course to tailor the needs of specific client groups.
